Bucks

Lucy DOB: 2/28/2021 75%

Eventually I will get Lucy’s items updated. He is out of Turbo and Krystal. I thought he was a doeling and red, so I named him Lucy before I realized my error. He was such a friendly guy from the start. Maybe he remembers that I pulled the birthing sack off of his head and saved his life, probably not. He grew into a beautiful buck and I am keeping him. He is easy to work with, he is hugely active with the ladies and is very prolific. I’m excited to see how his kids grow, but I can’t use him on many ladies as he is related to a lot of my herd.

2022 Update: Lucy got to breed some girls this year,  and  he made sure I saw what he was doing and he got them all bred (all 5 of them). I didn’t really see them come into heat so I was very impressed. Lucy is very easy to work with, he is wider than Fonzie in the girth area, but I think Fonzie is wider through the hips. His back feet turn out a bit but then look straight when he widens his stance. His mouth is good (sorry, no picture, but I check him more than any other goat).

Cedar Hawk Ranch Fonzie 10876008

Fonzie came from California. Some new blood coming in. It is very hard for me to find a herd that tests for CAE,CL, & Johnes. I am very pleased since buying him. He has grown bigger, has nice feet, nice depth of girth. I am excited to see what kids he has. He has color in his background so we will see if we have a ton of red babies or some color. His bite is good. I haven’t found definitive research on how a good mouth should be so I figured I would include a picture of his mouth.

Fonzie has calmed down a lot since coming to our place. He isn’t a tame buck, but he is beginning to let me scratch his ears. He loves grain and will follow a bucket anywhere. He is very wary of my husband.

Lefty! Lefty is more of a show goat than anyone else. He is long and when I look at him I keep thinking that he looks like a show pig. He has the special walk of a show pig because of all his muscling.  He has a nice demeaner. Longevity runs in his background. His dam was 7 when she raised triplets to include Lefty. Lefty has an exceptional bite.

Reference Buck

SCA16 SMOKING TURBO (SQ) 10852554

DOB: 12/7/2019 Fullblood

  • SS:TST1 WINDY ACRES SQUARE POWER (OT)    *ENNOBLED* NGC-16                                                                  2016 ABGA National Grand Champion Buck

  • DS: SAKB ROCKY TOP (SQ)

DAM: SAKB LONG KISS

Turbo has thrown colorful kids with very gentle personalities. He has increased the chest width on the kids in comparison to their dams. He is a very showy buck and has added that extra muscle and “shine” to his kids.

At 3 years old, Turbo has amazing hooves. They grow out straight and stay straight. I never mind trimming his hooves because I never have to “fix” them. His mouth is what I consider “off” it is still within ABGA regulations, but I feel that it inhibits his ability to pull hay off a bale (he grazes just fine). I am still happy with his offspring, but I am definitely getting pickier when looking at mouths. (AKA put him on does that have solid mouths and you shouldn’t have problems).

Turbo isn’t tame, but he is a gentleman. He never threatens or comes after me. He fights for his top position on almost a daily basis and he always clears his side of the feed bunk of the other goats, but sometimes a buckling is able to sneak in on the side and he doesn’t mind. He is fine to put with bucklings. He stands nicely when I trim his hooves. He is nice to the does, but will break down a gate if he sees a buck on the other side breeding does. He breeds at night or during cool weather and you must use a breeding harness to get any idea of what he is doing.

Turbo has been loaded into NSIP and has all of his progeny uploaded.

Demetry

DOB: 1/15/2020 50%

  • SS: MAXS MAX BOER GOATS IMAX 3-D (OT) *ENNOBLED*

Sire: 10685251 MAXS MAX BOER GOATS BLACK DIAMOND (SQ)

  • SD: MAXS MAX BOER GOATS POLAR PANDAORA

Dam: Commercial Boer

Demetry is the buck I kept back after his sire died unexpectedly. He was out of my favorite commercial doe and wasn’t used a whole lot since he was related to most of my does. He bred a couple girls and his kids are very deep in their barrel, but just not as wide as I would prefer to see.

2022 update – Demetry turned mean and was no longer a safe goat to be around and this directly lead to his trip to the salebarn. The remaining bucks have gained more weight and have become a lot more relaxed since his departure.

Sesame was bought because I wanted an outcross that would make easy births on my doelings. He is a colorful buck from a CAE, CL, Johne’s tested herd. His dam is a line of slower developing does, but she consistently raises multiple kids. She is also a doe that maintains her body condition and rarely needs to be dewormed. Sesame was at our farm when his mom got her grand champion win!

2022 Update – Sesame sired many kids with a lot of color. His kids were an average of 7.5lbs at birth, so we had a lot of easy births. The kids are growing good and will be further evaluated after weaning.

Sesame is very tall and leggy, thankfully his girls are not as leggy and they have much more width than this guy. His attitude is changing and I’m hoping it is only during rut season, otherwise he might be getting rehomed. One of his front legs is beginning to turn and that didn’t happen until after he was 1 year old. I’m certain he didn’t get hurt, but it is only one leg.
