Boer Does
Our Boer herd started in 2015 with eight commercial does. I strive to increase the percentage registered while still keeping the fertility, good mothering ability, kidding ease, and growth rate.
I am still playing with genetics to see if I can make a better goat, some of my does are still commercial because they are good goats.
After January 2021, I will renew my ABGA membership and start registering my does. They all tested negative for Johne's October 2020 and I hope to get some pictures of them uploaded to here.
Our first time kidders kid within 18 months of life, usually in March if they were born in January dependent on breed. Then they raise their kids and don't get bred again until the fall, normally end of August to September. They kid in January/February and get started on an 8 month breeding cycle. The does kid, raise their kids for 3 months and then get bred again so that they kid in 5 months and the process gets repeated. We don't breed for show goats, we breed for production goats and manage them as such. This doesn't mean that a kid bred by us won't make a good show goat, but our management and feed program isn't tailored for show animals.
This is the sire to most of the girls in my herd.
